Senior Pet Care

Pets Health Veterinary Practices wants to be there for your pet through all life stages. From their puppy days on through their golden years, our goal is to make sure they have everything they need to stay happy and healthy.

Just as younger animals need regular dental care, our older companions do too. An important part of keeping them happy and healthy is preventing those painful and sometimes life-threatening conditions that crop up. One of the biggest issues our veterinarians see in our older patients is gum line infection. It’s an easy spot for owners to overlook, but these infections can enter the bloodstream and affect other parts of your pet’s body, wreaking havoc on everything from their heart to their kidneys and beyond.

Regular Health Checks

Regular health checks are especially important for older animals, as many diseases that affect them may worsen quickly without appropriate treatment. Our veterinarians can help you watch for signs and symptoms of common conditions as your pet ages, such as different forms of cancers, diabetes and heart conditions. We’ll also ensure that your pet is up to date on their vaccinations and is parasite-free.

It can be difficult to keep pets at a healthy weight in their senior years, so our vets are happy to work with you to determine the best food options given their specific situation. Weight loss can often make an older pet feel quite a bit younger again. If they’ve developed any skin or gastrointestinal issues, we can help there too.
